Adding fish to our diet is a good option if you're trying to be healthier. Most of us know fish is good for us, but we do not necessarily know which are the types of fish to eat. There's definitely a few types of fish that top the list, like Salmon, Yellowtail, Tuna, Mackeral and even Hoki. In this article we will explore what it is about some of these types of fish that makes them so healthy for us.
Tuna is different from other fish in that its meat tends to be pink to a deep red instead of white. Three of the most recognized types of tuna are bluefin tuna, yellowfin tuna, and albacore tuna. Bluefin tuna has become controversial in recent years, since they're pretty much extinct at this point, yet still some restaurant choose to serve it.

Tuna can be purchased in different forms, one of the most popular is in a can. When buying canned tuna it is important to choose cans that have water instead of oil. When the oil is drained from a can of tuna the omega-3 fatty acids that make tuna so good for you can drain away as well. Tuna is available in other ways than just in a can, and there are numerous ways it can be prepared as well.
Salmon are unique in that they begin life in fresh water but then travel to the ocean. They come back to fresh water to spawn. These fish can be found in the Great Lakes, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Pacific Ocean.
Salmon is also a great choice of fish to eat because of its high content of omega-3 fatty acids. Salmon is a good source of vitamin D and protein also. When you go out for sushi, there's usually a selection of different types of salmon to try. In general, it's a pretty tasty fish.
Hoki is rich in omega-3 fatty acids and is considered a clean fish. It is found in the waters of Australia and New Zealand. There are numerous ways to prepare and enjoy this dense white fish.
Many people choose to forgo eating fish and still receive the benefits from them by taking a fish oil supplement. The fear of contamination in fish from mercury, PCB's, and dioxins is enough to make some people choose supplementation instead. Hoki is considered safer then salmon or tuna, but it too has a chance of contamination.
While eating salmon, tuna, and Hoki can be delicious, it is not always possible or even desirable. A great way to still receive the benefits of having fish in your diet is to take a fish oil supplement.
